My Go-To Resource Guide

I think that one of the hardest things about teaching is having an arsenal of resources to add variety to your lessons. Text books are a great resource to have access to but being able to modify and create resources is always a good skill to develop. Sharing resources, finding good resource banks and books to use is always a bonus, saving time and allowing you to spend more time on differentiating where needed and less on reinventing the wheel!

For today’s ‘Chatbiology 12 days of Christmas Biology Blogs’ I wanted to share some of my favourites I have come across in my nearly 20 years of hoarding resources! Some are free and some are paid for/subscriptions.

1  TES resources – always a good starting point for some things. There are a mix of paid for and free (sort by least cost to see the free ones first) and a range of quality but it can have some little gems thanks to the generosity of others!

2  TWINKL – would you believe that there are lots of fab resources (including differentiated resources) available. You can pay a subscription just for secondary science (you don’t need to subscribe to all subjects or primary) for £6-£8 a month

3 Oxford Revision Guides – This book is fab for A level if you can get a copy!

It has great 1 page diagrams for each concept at A level which is brilliant for revision or making fill-in-the-gaps.

4   X (Twitter) and @chatbiology – so many people share their resources through Twitter (sorry, I just can’t really call it X!) and are really kind to do so! Search and you shall find!

5   CGP books – CGP have a fab range of revision guides and workbooks as well as some good online quizzes that students can use.

6  Footprint Science – a fab website for mainly GCSE that has some great quizzes and animations for free and more if you pay for the subscription. This is particularly good for helping students who struggle to learn keywords with lots of different types of quizzes. Students can also challenge each other or you can give the students a code (no need for login) and have them compete as a class!

Hope you find these helpful as a starting point but there are plenty more resources recommended on the rest of the ChatBiology site including teacher made, video and practical resources!
